Food | Drink | Travel

We’ve been traveling together for over 20 years, always traveling with a focus on local food and drink. Understanding how people eat is the best way to understand their culture. This blog explores why we travel for food and why you should too.

In this travel blog, we focus on food, drink, and luxury travel, because that’s how we like to travel. This includes everything from street food to fine dining, from food tours to exploring local markets, from wine and cocktails to craft beer and coffee. We travel on our stomachs and want you to be able to do the same. We offer concrete tips on what and where to eat when traveling, but also try to tell the stories behind the food we eat.

Amber Hoffman, food and travel writer behind With Husband In Tow, is a recovering attorney and professional eater, with a passion for finding new food and drink destinations. She lives with her husband, Eric, in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Together over the last 20 years, they have traveled to over 70 countries. Amber is the author of the Food Traveler’s Guide to Emilia Romagna. She regularly lectures on social media marketing to travel professionals throughout Europe.

Some of her favorite less food-focused trips include an epic trip to the Maldives and when she fed a panda in Chengdu. When not traveling, you can find her sipping gin and tonics in Girona, while binge-watching food TV programs, like a Chef’s Table and Somebody Feed Phil. Her primary passion is offering the best tips she can in this food travel blog.

Eric Hoffman, the “Husband” behind the blog, is an avid AvGeek due to his former career in advertising sales in the aviation industry. At first, he was in tow as Amber planned their travels around the world. Now, he serves an integral role in helping readers and followers plan their own food trips.

When he’s not plane spotting, Eric is researching and learning about all things pork, whether that means finding new recipes to cook at home in the Costa Brava or finding the best pork sandwiches in Lisbon. His primary passion really is Twitter, where he spends much of his time chatting with the world about food and travel. Some of his favorite non-food traveling experiences include standing inside North Korea on a Korean DMZ tour and perfecting driving in Italy.

Check out Amber's Culinary Travel Books

Amber’s published two culinary travel books on two top gastronomy destinations in Europe. Amber’s most recent guide, The Food Traveler’s Guide to The Costa Brava: From Traditional Catalan Cuisine to Modern Gastronomy is all about the food and drink of Northeastern Spain, in the region of Catalonia. This is home to El Celler de Can Roca and formerly of elBulli, creating a rich culinary heritage just north of Barcelona.

Amber’s first book, The Food Traveler’s Guide to Emilia Romagna: How to taste the history and tradition of Italy focuses on the bread basket of Europe. Emilia Romagna is home to slow food and fast cars. Most important its cities and towns are where some of the top Italian food products originate.

Both books are available in hard copy and ebook formats on Amazon now.
